Sir Knights,
A reminder, as agreed at the meeting last night, we will conduct a blood drive before the next SR Stated Meeting, from 1630 in the afternoon until 1800, then go direct to the Temple.
Dress will be white business shirt, sleeves rolled up (we will be 'working' :-)), suit pants (kilt if you are so inclined), sash and medallion (or equivalent), glengarry. Basically our normal atire without jacket.
For those who can't give blood for whatever reason, please feel free to join us - you are still supporting the KSAH cause by being there and your inability to donate does not preclude you from joining our activity and representing. I would like to have a photo done of us all there, probably as the last people are donating.
It will be at the Hawai'i Blood Bank Young St center. I'll go at 1630 to be first one through and to manage the process, let me know what time you could make it and we will try to stagger people through, but I do need to know if and when you can make it as we will have to schedule this properly with the Blood Bank.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks and I hope we will see you on 15th!
Fraternal regards
Damien Donavan Knight Commander Knights of Saint Andrew Honolulu Chapter

Thanks for the reminder, Sir Knight Commander.
I cannot be there at 4:30p since I am teaching a class until 5:00p, but will go to the blood bank immediately following. I will be in the attire specified.
Since I have a more common blood type, but with some uncommon characteristics, I will make arrangements to give a double donation of platelets. This may take a while, however the blood bank informed me that my platelets can be given to children and that one double donation is often all they require at a given time.
Should anyone inquire about my absence or tardiness, please pass this information along so that they know there is a good reason I am not there. I will go to the Scottish Rite Cathedral immediately after I finish the donation.

Sir Knights:
I am wondering how much interest there is in arranging another KSAH blood drive in the coming months, perhaps this time with some perspective members. There are many newer Brethren who are very interested and involved in community outreach efforts, and who have also expressed interest in joining KSAH.
Personally, I have been going to the Blood Bank of Hawaii (BBH) every two weeks to donate platelets. Each time I have gone there, someone asks if the Knights will be returning any time soon. You seem to have made quite an impression on them! They have also brought up that some Knights expressed an interest in donating platelets, and said that all you need to do is call them up to make arrangements.
Although these are only my personal feelings, I always come away from platelet donations knowing that it is extremely likely that my platelets will be given to a cancer patient or victim of a very serious accident, and that my donation will relieve their suffering. The BBH staff informed me that, given the characteristics of my blood (particularly that it's CMV-), my platelets would likely go to a child or baby who suffers from leukemia. Just think about that for a second: you take less than 2 hours out of your day to get stuck with a needle (and pretty much do nothing after that), and you can not only save the life of a child, but relieve their pain and suffering so that they can be happy and have a joyful childhood. Even if you're not CMV-, your donation can still have the same result, and there's even a process in which CMV+ and CMV- platelets are mixed together - which, in my mind anyway, is a pretty cool way of Brothers working together to help others.
Given that the holiday season is coming up, we have the opportunity to work together and give the gift of life to others. And with your personal example serving as inspiration and encouragement, there's a good chance that others outside of KSAH will want to join us.
